Franz-Markus Siegert, born 1981 in Dresden, Germany, is holding the position of second concert master of the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2009. At the age of 16 he was accepted to the preparation class for highly gifted students of Prof. Rudolf Rampf at the Musikhochschule Trossingen and studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Prof. Christian Altenburger from 2001 to 2009, where he graduated with distinction. Other of his mentors include Dorothy Delay and Kurt Sassmannshaus, with whom he studied at the Aspen Music Festival & School, Colorado.
Franz-Markus Siegert was concert master of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, where he received the Advancement Award by the European Cultural Foundation. He was also invited to play as guest concertmaster with the Bavarian State Opera, the Bavarian State Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra London and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra. Following an invitation by Claudio Abbado he became a member of the Orchestra Mozart of Bologna.
During his studies held scholarships from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, the Foundation Gustav Mahler (Bolzano), the Stiftung Villa Musica (Rhineland-Palatinate) and the Thyll-Dürr-Foundation (Switzerland).
Franz-Markus Siegert made solistic appearances with the Webern Sinfonietta Wien, the State Orchestra Brandenburg, the Collegium Musicum Bankya of Sofia, Bulgaria, the Vidin State Philharmonic Orchestra, Bulgaria, the Youth Orchestra of Baden-Württemberg and the Regensburg Chamber Orchestra.
